Edgar Wallace
Edgar Wallace (1875–1932) was one of Britain’s most widely read thriller writers, known for his fast‑paced mysteries, sharp dialogue, and seemingly endless imagination. Born in London and raised in poverty, he left school early, served in the army, and became a war correspondent before turning to fiction. Wallace wrote at a remarkable speed, producing more than 170 novels, hundreds of short stories, and numerous plays. His work shaped early 20th‑century crime fiction, and characters like the Green Archer and detective J.G. Reeder remain part of the genre’s foundation. In Hollywood, he contributed to the early development of King Kong. Wallace’s stories continue to be adapted, reprinted, and rediscovered for their energy, intrigue, and cinematic flair.
